TENT CITY HERE WE COME! JOIN ME IN HELPING SOME FOLKS WHO CAN REALLY USE IT

Get Out and Help the Homeless (Las Vegas, NV)
Take pride in helping our community.

Date: Saturday, June 27, 2009
Time: 7:00am - 11:00am
Location: Huntridge Pharmacy Parking Lot
Street: 1122 East Charleston, Las Vegas, NV
Phone: (702) 576-4978
Email: dwashington314@gmail.com

Due to the economic conditions in Las Vegas that include being among the leading cities in both unemployment and in foreclosures, we are experiencing a rapid increase in homeless families and fast growing tent cities. Now that school is out, the last safety net many of these children have in the way of school lunch programs is not available.

Our community partners will be assisting us in providing information on social outreach and benefit programs that may be available for these families, and our group has chosen to address the more immediate needs of food, water and hygiene products.

WHAT WE NEED -

1. Volunteers. We will be distributing items in tent cities in Las Vegas on June 27, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

2. Donations of non-perishable foods in self-opening containers such as Nutrigrain bars, granola bars, individual serving containers of fruits/fruit cocktail or pudding, snack packs of cereal, individual packs of pretzels or crackers, bottled water and reusable bags for delivery. Please bring food that doesn't need to be cooked. Also, if canned goods, please make sure it's a "pull top" so that no can opener is needed.

3. Donations of personal hygiene products such as dry soap, deodorant, Feminine products, diapers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc..

4. Men's, woman's and children s clothes (toys would be nice too) are also needed.

Just think of what you would need if you were homeless.

Any leftover items will be donated to the Shade Tree Shelter which aids women and families.

There will be a specially priced breakfast menu at the Huntridge Diner for those who want to eat afterwords.

Please arrive between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM to help sort and package various items. We will leave the Huntridge Pharmacy parking lot at 8:00 AM to distribute the items.

Let's take pride in helping our community!

WHERE YOU SHOULD BE SHOPPING: JOHN VARVATOS

Recently, I made my way down to my fave shopping destination, The Forum Shops at Ceasars Palace. If you've never been, poor you. It is, hands down, the most luxurious shopping mall in The LV. From it's kitschy talking statues to its cobblestone paths that lead to the worlds premier luxury shops and its ever changing skyscape, The Forum Shops brings a whole new meaning to an afternoon at the mall. Yours truly was invited to the tres chic John Varvatos shop to personally preview the launch of the new Ernst Benz by John Varvatos Limited edition Chronoscope. That's a really cool way to say, majorly nice watch. I was welcomed into the hip, modern space by the killer staff. General Manager Charlotte Moazzami and Assistant Manager Rachel Fox showed me around the shop and introduced me to that aforementioned exquisite timepiece. I was then given the VIP tour by mega well dressed Yoni who pointed out some of the great accessories and the latest Spring Summer 2009 designs. Unlike a lot of high end stores, John Varvatos at The Forum Shops is a welcoming place staffed by friendly folks who delight in showing off their line. The clothes are casually luxurious, perfect for a well dressed guys day or night in The LV. You can go from a private jet straight to your VIP table with a bottle of Dom without missing a beat in John Varvatos. The John Varvatos line is, while stylish and ultra luxe, very comfortable and quite affordable considering the style and quality of work that goes into each piece. If you're a guy looking for a great place to stock up for Spring/Summer 2009, stop in and have the great folks at John Varvatos hook you up in style.

WHERE YOU SHOULD BE EATING: THE HUNTRIDGE DINER

Everybody swears that they know where to get the best burger in The LV. Unless they say The Huntridge Diner they're wrong. I have never stopped a meeting in mid-bite and forced everyone to take a bite of anything in my life. I did at The Huntridge Diner. My cheese and bacon burger came on a fluffy fresh roll with a side of thick steak fries. The ground steak was the freshest I have ever tasted. My luncheon companion, radio show host "Princess Anne" Mulford raved about her chicken salad sandwich as well. "It's as good as my grandmothers!", the royal one managed to say between bites and "umms!" The Huntridge Diner is one of the only authentic diners in The LV. It is tucked into a pharmacy at the corner of Maryland Parkway and Charleston in the getting very hip, Huntridge District. For over 50 years denizens of The LV have been chowing down on the best Philly Steaks (try it with the fresh pizza sauce!) breakfast and burgers in town. The retro vibe is completed with red vinyl booths and black and white tiled floors like the diner from every 50's movie you've ever seen. And the prices are pretty retro too! My burger was only $6.49 and I left full! Make sure when you try out The Huntridge Diner you tell I Love Las Vegas magazine Blog sent you!
